ANZAC DAY

ANZAC Day is no doubt the most important day of remembrance on the RSL calendar. It commemorates the Gallipoli landings on 25 April 1915. In Kyneton, the day begins with a solemn Dawn Service at the Cenotaph in the centre of town and draws a crowd of several hundred people, young and old. Following the Dawn Service, a traditional Gunfire Breakfast is served at the RSL. Later in the morning, a street march is held, followed by a service at the Cenotaph. Students from local schools and colleges are invited to participate in the ceremony. The main street of Kyneton is usually lined with hundreds of people cheering on the Veterans and their families, as well as members of community organisations and sporting clubs. Following the service, refreshments are served at the RSL.

The Kyneton RSL also supports ANZAC Day ceremonies in the surrounding towns of Malmsbury, Trentham and Taradale. To ensure that the whole community is involved in ANZAC Day, members of the Kyneton RSL also conduct or attend ANZAC Day ceremonies at local aged care facilities, schools and colleges.
